- Metro Vancouver and Park Royal Shopping Centre launched a waste reduction pilot project with an event called "The Great Trash Tip." Two garbage compactors full of waste and recycling were tipped into the Park Royal's parking lot and examined by garbage inspectors. Metro Vancouver provided Park Royal with a report that inventories the contents of the centre's garbage containers. This will help to decrease garbage that ends up in the landfills. Park Royal's current inventory of garbage will serve as a benchmark.
- New garbage bins in the shopping centre help with encouraging shoppers to recycle by having 3 seperate containers each labeled clearly with Mixed Paper, Trash or Cans/Bottles.
