Park Royal Shopping Centre has been selected as the first
recipient of the annual “Healthy Community Hero” Award by the Active North Shore
Network (ANS). The award aims to recognize those who support one or more of
the three pillars of ANS – active living, healthy eating and living smoke free
on the North Shore. "Park Royal has set a high standard for investing in and
supporting programs and initiatives that contribute to healthy living - they are
a great choice for the 1st annual Healthy Community Hero Award," says Kathy
Romses, Community Dietitian and ANS member.
Park Royal
demonstrated leadership by supporting all three pillars of ANS. The shopping
centre promotes active living by providing wide sidewalks for safe walking
routes in the Village area and allowing walking groups to use the mall for their
programs. Park Royal also worked with Vancouver Coastal Health and hired a
dietitian to make healthy options readily available in the food court. Park
Royal demonstrated its leadership by installing smoke free doorway signage that
complies with provincial smoke free legislation. Park Royal has also taken the
opportunity to host various Move For Heath Day events organized by ANS.
The Active North Shore Network is a community-based health and wellness network. Network members and sponsors include municipalities, school districts, recreation departments, local businesses, and media partners. We work hard to achieve community awareness and accessibility for active, tobacco free living and healthy eating and to inspire those who work, play and live on the North Shore to live healthy balanced lives. We strive to improve the health and wellness of the entire population and reduce health inequities among population groups.
